Sew a Fabric and Felt Heart Bunting with this Pattern Freebie

I love that Valentine's Day comes right in the middle of dreary & cold February, don't you?

Filling the month up with sweet ways to tell friends, family & loves how much we care about them makes it seem like March and the first signs of Spring are only a heartbeat away.

This little heart garland can be sewn up in a weekend.  It uses whatever scraps of fabric you have plus some felt and twine and I think it adds the perfect "handmade with love" touch anywhere you hang it.

I've had it draped in every room of the house, but currently it's in the homeschool room where we spend most of our time.

To make it, just trace the large heart pattern onto your felt and the small heart pattern onto your fabric scraps and cut them out.

You can make as many hearts as you want, from a small little banner of 3 hearts to a large banner of 20 hearts or more.

Mine is 11 because I like that number (and also I got tired of cutting out hearts after 11, ha!)

The hearts are about 3 1/4 inches at their widest point and I left about 3" between each heart, so my banner is 66" long or about 5 1/2 feet.  That should help you when planning how long you want your banner to be.

Once you have all the hearts cut out, pin each fabric heart to a felt heart and then sew around the edges several times, with dark thread, in a haphazard way (unless you prefer tidy stitches of course).

You can then pull at the edges of the fabric, all the way around the heart to give it a rough edge and a more primitive, or shabby look.  (Again if you like things tidy, just skip this step.)

Finally, attach your hearts to the twine.  You can do this with a hot glue gun, or by hand stitching them.

Now hang up your pretty banner and count the minutes 'til spring!

And of course send me a link if you make the banner and post photos somewhere so I can add you to my Readers Get Crafty pinterest board of fame! (ok, maybe just famous with me, but still...)

I know not everyone decorates for Valentine's Day, but I love it almost as much as Christmas.  Do you decorate for Valentine's Day?

Hope you're having a blessed and happy week!

Grace & Peace,

Melissa~
