The Real Meaning of Christmas
Use coupon code: peptalk to receive a 20% discount!
I'm really excited to have finally found something easy to use, that helps me not just *teach* my son the real meaning of Christmas, but *experience* it with him.
I guess I'm a little biased, because I consider the author, Amanda White, one of my online friends, but honestly I just *love love love* this amazing little book and would be recommending it to you even if I had never spoken to Amanda.
It is so well organized and requires basic supplies that you probably already have around the house.
When you purchase the book you get a Scripture reading, ornament crafts, talking points and extension activities for each of the 24 days before Christmas. Plus fun printables and templates!
It's the perfect Elf on the Shelf alternative too, for those of us who want to have a fun tradition each year that centers more on the Lord than on the guy in the red suit.
The best part is that it helps you to create sweet memories as you experience the Christmas story with your children over the next 25 days.
One of the cool things Amanda has done is to create printable ornaments to use when you don't have time to do the craft or maybe you're just not a crafty person, but you want to teach your children the Christmas story in a meaningful way.
Free Printable Matchbook Mini Album
We'll be using those printables when we travel so I thought I'd create a little matchbook mini album to keep them in when we're finished. I thought it would make a nice Christmas keepsake too, to hang on the tree each year.
I also made a mini matchbook album template in case you'd like to have an album for your Truth in the Tinsel ormanents. I think you could put the actual ornament crafts in this album as well, depending on how thick they were.
Matchbook Mini Album Tutorial
So here's what you need to get started:

Paper Trimmer or Scissors
Bone Folder (or a spoon)
Optional: (if you want to make your mini book into an ornament)
Print out your album and pages and then using a paper trimmer or scissors cut out your matchbook and pages. There is also an extra blank label in case you want to name your album something different.
Once you have all your pieces cut out (as in photo above) it's time to start folding your album. A bone folder is helpful for this step, but if you don't have one, the back of a spoon will work too.
First fold up the 1/2" star patterned part of your album (see above). Use the bone folder (or spoon) to press down on the folds and make a nice, crisp fold.
Next you're going to make a crease along both sides of the 1/4" star patterned strip in the middle of your album (see above). Again, use your bone folder or spoon to press your folds.
It should look somthing like the photos above when you've finished creasing it.
Next add in your stack of pages under the star flap
and staple in the center, towards the bottom. You want to make sure to leave room at the top of the star flap so that you can tuck your cover in.
That's it! Your book is completed and ready for your ornaments! The flap should look a little loose (see photo below) so that you have room for all those ornaments.
The pages are numbered at the top and you can attach your ornaments to the pages horizontally (like below) so that you can look through it like a traditional book or in vertically (see second photo below) if you like everything going the same direction.
Optional Step Four-Ornament
If you'd like to make your mini book into an ornament, just poke a little hole in the top star portion, feed your ribbon through (you can use a tapestry needle to make that a little easier) and then tie a knot in the underside.
I hope you have fun with this! If you haven't purchased your copy of Truth in the Tinsel yet you can get it today for 20% off with coupon code: peptalk
